Historic moment as two of London’s oldest volleyball clubs announce merger
We are pleased to announce that London Docklands and Richmond VB have reached agreement to merge clubs starting from the 2017-18 season.
Both London based clubs strongly believe that this strategic partnership represents an incredible opportunity for both clubs, for our athletes and for English volleyball in general, to create a stronger ‘volleyball hub’ in the region by which we continue to develop the grassroots of the sport at the same time that we preserve the legacy of London Docklands and create a fantastic opportunity for our athletes to compete in higher level volleyball.
Particularly important and beneficial for all will be the positive impact that this agreement will provide for Richmond’s junior athletes who are also part of the England Talent Pathway (currently seven boys) as they will be able to continue to develop as players with exposure to Super8s volleyball.
As a result of the merger, the name of the men’s Super8s team will be Richmond Docklands and Richmond VB will give up their place in the NVL1 competition in favour of the Super8s. The rest of the club structure and operations, including women/girls, schools, beach and community programmes remain unchanged.
The club’s volunteers and athletes are looking forward to an exciting future as the enlarged club competes at all levels of volleyball in England.
