Richmond Volleyball celebrates opening of the new beach volleyball facility at Broom Road Recreational Ground inTeddington.

The Deputy Mayor of London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames Cllr Peter Buckwell enjoyed a taste of the great outdoors as he officially opened the beach courts which are set to provide new beach volleyball opportunities for the RVB and the local community.

He was joined by David Golton from the London Marathon Trust and the London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames Sport & Fitness Services Team to cut the ribbon.

“When Lord Coe talked about the post-London 2012 ‘legacy’ these are the sorts of projects that will hopefully provide the foundations and the opportunities for more people to get involved in volleyball in South West London & Surrey for many years to come. One of the best things about beach volleyball is there is always something new to learn, which really lends itself to a lifetime of enjoyment on the sand.”

David Rijvers RVB Chairman, said: “Good sports facilities linked with community and schools play an important role in local communities; improving people’s sporting experience and helping attract new participants.  Richmond Volleyball is a Clubmark Club meaning it conforms to the highest standards of quality and safety. The new facilities are part of RVB’s overall strategy to get more local people playing volleyball more regularly.

RVB is running Mid-Week Learn and Play Sessions, Social Leagues, Advance Leagues, Weekend Tournaments, Mini Junior Coaching, Junior Performance (many RVB Juniors won Gold and Silver medals at the recent British JR Open Championships held at Sandbanks, Dorset) and Beach Coaching courses. While youngsters from local schools and youth groups will learn the sport in September via RVB Satellite Clubs providing low cost opportunities for kids aged 8-18 to get involved.
