RVB Women NVL2 : Keep calm and carry on
After a busy Saturday afternoon for a majority of the team playing at the U18 National Cup qualification round, RVB arrived at Aschombe sport centre ready to take home 3 points from Sussex Dolphins to keep pressure on Oxford and Reading.
With 8 games left in the season Richmond Volleyball Club Women Div 2 team carries on with their quest for a play off position as a minimum.
The message from the Head Coach Giorgio Scatigna-Gianfagna”GSG ” was very simple: “Stay calm, execute well and play with serenity and belief”.
With some great serving by Lisa Canevari and Ilona Macdonald, some good blocking and middle attacks by Issie Russell and some good back court defence by Anna Zadoika, the first set was quickly over for Sussex Dolphins at 25-16 to RVB.
In the second set Katie Keefe moved to the right wing position producing some very powerful hits, with Ilona and Maddie Monteiro alternating in the middle spot. It was a well executed set with well deserved 25-16 again.
Although the third set started well, some very well placed serving from Sussex saw the RVB team losing concentration allowing the hosts to level at 20-20. A couple of great blocks by Issie and a well placed serves by Gledia kept the teams leveled at 23-23. Timeout by GSG to regroup the team worked the treat and was followed by 2 points from quick attacks and an ace that closed which the set and the game for Richmond at 25-23.
GSG commented: ” Looking at the standings, 3-0 was an important victory This league is still wide open with 4 teams up and running for a possible promotion. We need to work hard in the next 3 training sessions before matches vs Dartford at home and vs Oxford away. These are two massive games. We can’t take anything for granted as the season will go to the wire. Very proud of the team today after last weekend. ”
