individuals who are not attached to any club can join the league teams, the league is open to juniors and seniors
and has amazing friendly social atmosphere.
League Governance
The league is governed by Richmond Volleyball and assisted by
all the local league clubs involved with the aim to promote and develop volleyball in Kingston, Richmond and
other South London boroughs, Hounslow and North East Surrey.
Who can play?
Everyone. The local league promotes interest in the sport,
supporting grass roots volleyball for people of different ages, gender and sporting
abilities - from beginners to Olympic hopefuls.
Local league players and members range from 14 to 65.
When and Where?
The league is held at a central venue in Twickenham at
Richmond College Sports Hall. Match night is
Monday from 7pm to 10pm
The league runs from October to April on two volleyball courts. The league is mixed, at least one woman on court
is required.
How the Local League works?
The league is set up with
two divisions playing on 2 courts in one venue.
The league capacity is 7 teams per division.
Division 1 is for advanced/intermediate teams and Division 2 is intermediate/novice teams.
On the match evening each team plays TWO matches against other teams in their division (i.e. triangular matches).
Playing Schedule
Each match will be of three sets (i.e. 3:0 or 2:1). First 2 sets to 25 points and 3rd set to 15 points - NO 2 clear points.
Match playing schedule
will be back-to-back and no longer than 50 minutes or 3 sets (whichever comes first) with 10 minutes warm-up. Don't forget to bring your
own volleyballs!
How often will your team compete?
The league runs from October to April and the fixtures are posted before the first date for the whole season.
Normally a team will compete every other week or every third week. However, it is inevitable
that at some point during the season some teams will have longer or shorter intervals between their fixtures.
Each team will play each other at least 3 times and will have between
16-18 matches per season. When you play your fixtures, you will have 2 matches per evening and 1
match to officiate.
Who officiates the games?
All league matches are referred by participating teams.
Each team must provide a 1st referee, a 2nd referee
and a scorer on their match day. You will need to fill scoresheets
and hand it to the Court Manager Team at the end of the game you officiated.
It is desirable for referees to be qualified, although experienced players with
competence in the rules can be first officials. Don't forget to bring your own whistle!
How League Points are Assigned?
Two points for each match won and one point to each team starting the match on time (max 3 points per match for
the winning team and min 1 point per match for the losing team).
There are also penalty points - one point is deducted for not
fulfilling a match fixture, one point is deducted for failure to provide all
officials, one point is deducted for failure to fullfill Court Management duties and notify results promptly.
Who are the Court Managers?
2-3 times during the season each team will be assigned as
Court Manager on
their match night. The Court Manager Team will have to
ensure that all equipment is put out safely at the end, all matches start and finish on time, scoresheets
are handed out to officials and are collected at the end of the evening, and that the results are texted or emailed to
the League Secretary no later than Wednesday.
How much team entry costs?
For the season, a mixed team will pay £315.00 which
covers league administration and court hire. The deposit of £75.00 is made when the team submits
their league entry (payable by the 31st August) and the 2nd payment of £240.00 is payable before the 30th September. If the full payment
is not recieved by the announced start date of the league, the late payment penalty of £20 is due.
