U12 Chessington Girls win Kingston borough finals

Chessington Community College girls won the 1st u12 Kingston Borough Secondary Schools Volleyball finals last Tuesday held at Tolworth Girls School but it was not easy! The event hosted 12 teams from 6 schools (Coombe Girls, Holy Cross, Hollyfield, Tiffin Girls, Tolworth Girls and Chessington CC) and produced many close games with high levels of noise and excitement throughout the afternoon.
The teams were split into two groups for the initial part of the tournament with the top two teams from each group progressing into the semi finals. The 1st Semi Final was between Holy Cross 1 (winner group A) and won 22-14 against Tolworth 1 (runner-up group B). The 2nd Semi Finals was between Chessington 1 (runner-up group A) and won 23-14 against Tiffin 2 (winner group B). The 3rd and 4th play off was won by Tiffin 2 (21-9).
The penultimate match was between Chessington and Holy Cross having both qualified from the preliminary Group A matches with Holy Cross beating Chessington 21-16. The final provided some great entertainment for the many parents and teachers cheering on their sides but it was Holy Cross who was taken by surprise by Chessington’s determination and consistency and produced a convincing 21-17 victory.
The afternoon finished with sporting medals and certificates handed out to the top four teams presented by Mike Skinner (Competitions Manger for Richmond and Kingston Schools and Great Britain 5000 meters Sporting Champion). Richmond Volleyball Schools Coordinator David Rijvers commented, the u12 girls finals was a great success
adopting the 'Dutch Circulation Mini Volleyball (CMV) game model. Over the course of the four weeks Richmond Volleyball coaches coached over 100 young people to prepare the teams. All the teams learned 3 touch volleyball (dig, set, spike), resulting in some great rallies. Thanks go to all the school teachers and venue host and to all the schools sport leaders who helped on the day as scorers and referees making the event a great success. Congratulations to all the girls for an outstanding event.

To get involved Richmond Volleyball
runs junior sessions for boys and girls at Tiffin Boys School (Sat 10am), Chessington School (Mon 4.15pm), Coombe Girls School (Thurs 4.30pm) and London Oratory School (Fri 4.30 pm).
