Richmond Junior selected for u16 England South girls squad
24th May 2010
Angela De-Silva (u15 Richmond Junior player) has been selected to represent the u16 England South Girls Squad at the 2010 Sainsbury's UK School Games to be held in North East England next September. She was a key member of a successful u15 Richmond Junior girls team competing in the National Junior Cup competitions and performed well with seven other Richmond girls in the u16 London Squad in Volleyball England’s Inter-Regional Championships (national talent development programme) earlier this month.
The UK School Games squads will provide high performance training for the most talented u16 players in South England, including National Junior squad members. The Surbiton High pupil has been with the club for nearly 18 months and all involved recognize her commitment and potential and will be watching her progress with keen interest.
Vera Kenyon (Head Coach for Junior Girls) said, “We are delighted for the selection and she will receive further high level training to help her achieve her potential in volleyball. In the last 24 months Richmond Volleyball Junior Development Centre (based at Tiffin Boys Schools – Kingston) has produced three England South players and with our strong community school-club links in Richmond, Kingston and Hounslow and our association with Fulham FC Foundation via the Premier League 4 Sport Programme we hope many more young promising players will progress to the Volleyball England National Talent Development Programme.
The UK School Games sit just below the National Junior Teams and are in line with the European National Junior age competitions (CEV). This year’s games will host six boys and six girls volleyball teams representing England North, England Central, England South, Northern Ireland, Scotland East, Scotland West and Wales. The Event will see over 1,600 of the UK's elite school age athletes compete across 10 sports.
