26th April 20100
Richmond Volleyball (a clubmark 2 club) based in the South West London has once again been voted London’s top Sports Club by Pro-Active London at their 3rd Annual Awards evening held at Brit Oval Cricket Ground last Friday.
In front of a packed house of 191 distinguished delegates, sponsors and key speakers such as Richard Sumray (Chair of the London 2012 Forum) and inspirational speaker Derek Redmond (European, Commonwealth and World Champion at 400 meters); Richmond were awarded 1st prize in the '2010 Club of the Year’ sponsored by Lee Valley Park which last year they also scooped the top accolade.
David Rijvers, Richmond Volleyball Club Chairman said: "We are truly delighted and honoured to receive this award for the 2nd year running and would like to personally congratulate all the nominees and London’s 20,000 clubs. We overcame tough competition from a huge array of clubs to win the prestigious ‘Club of the Year’ award. It is another fantastic achievement for the club and for volleyball in London.
In the last 12 months Richmond Volleyball made significant progress developing volleyball in South West London and achieved a fantastic milestone with nearly 4,000 people playing with RVC (an increase of 100% from 2008), via an extensive schools coaching
programme, organize a variety of competitions, numerous inclusive health and wellbeing events, junior holiday camps and training courses across Richmond, Kingston, Hounslow, Merton and North Surrey.
With a clear development pathway, our vision for 2010-14 is to maintain our strong community connections and have over 8.000 playing with RVC and thereby build strong elite performance programmes for our adult and junior teams. Thank you to all our volunteers, members, fans and partners for being involved with Richmond Volleyball helping us grow volleyball and become a leading London community sports club making it accessible, inclusive and enjoyable for all.’
