Richmond finishes season with a win over London Knights and secures promotion to NVL

In the final match of the regular season Richmond Volleyball men secured an important 3-2 win over 2nd place London Knights and in so doing made club history by securing 5th place and promotion to the new National Volleyball League Division One.
The pendulum was swinging in this game as both teams had moments to take control. Richmond started well and won the 1st set (25-23), Knights
levelled the game in the 2nd set (25-22), Richmond can back in the 3rd set (28-26), and Knights were terminated to stay in the game and
levelled the match again in the 4th set (25-16). Richmond continued to focus on their game plan in the 5th set and regained the lead with an 8-0 advantage with strong serving block and
defence and closed the game at 15-8.
Richmond’s 6’5 opposite player A.Kornilov lead the team from start to finish with his strong hitting and blocking securing big points for the team and won MVP commented Coach Rijvers. S.Monperrus also made a big contribution having not played since his serious head injury and concussion two months ago.
Richmond considered their over due win at London Knights one of their best evidence of their determination to finish a 5 set match having lost the last three matches in five set encounters and despite knowing for at least a week they would not advance further up the league table it was a very encouraging to see a solid team performance finishing the season with 8 wins and 7 loses.
