Delight for Holy Cross Girls at u14 Borough Finals

Congratulations to Holy Cross Girls who topped the 3rd u14 Kingston Schools Borough Volleyball Finals held at Tiffin Boys School. This year’s competition involved 70 young people and for the first time involved all six (Hollyfield, Tolworth Girls, Holy Cross, Tiffin Girls, Chessington and Coombe Girls) secondary borough schools.
The finals consisted of two pools of six teams with the top two teams progressing to the Semi-Finals. In Group A three teams (Coombe B, Chessington A and Holy Cross A) won four matches but it was Chessington and Holy Cross with higher points difference who advanced to the Semi-Finals. In Group B the top two challengers were Tolworth A and Coombe A both with four match wins. In the 1st Semi-Final Coombe A started favourites coming top in Group B but it was Holy Cross A setting the pace and won the game by 21 to 17 points. In the 2nd Semi-Final Chessington A were favorites topping Group A and only just edged Tolworth A by 1 point to reach the borough final (23 to 23). The final was a highly competitive match and Holy Cross showed more consistency and patience in their game to become worthy champions winning the match by 25 to 17. CCC Girls performed very well given that they were the youngest team in the competition all from year 8 (u13).
Richmond Volleyball Schools Coordinator commented, the girls finals was a great success with highest number of teams being there and the coaching sessions was well attended. All the teams learned 3 touch volleyball (dig, set, spike), resulting in some great rallies. Thanks goes to all the school teachers and venue host and to all the schools sport leaders who helped on the day as scorers and referees making the event a great success.
