Richmond u16 Girls battle hard in Nationals
19th Jan 2010
As winners and runners-up of Group E Richmond u16 Girls traveled to Dorking last weekend in the hope of qualifying for the quarter finals of the u16 National Junior Championship Finals. In a very strong group both Richmond A & B teams had to battle hard against two semi-finalist teams from last year (Ashcombe VC and Boswells VC) but unfortunately they failed to qualify.
Richmond could not reproduce their stunning 1st round form last December but the competition was very strong commented Richmond Coach Vera Kenyon. I’m very proud of these girls having been selected from the successful Richmond and Kingston Secondary Schools Sport Partnership Volleyball programme. They are all progressing very quickly and now need more regular training and discipline to develop to the next level. Teams reaching the semi-finals are training 6 hours per week setting new standards. They will have another chance to shine in the u17 London Youth Games where many will play for Richmond and Kingston teams.
“This year U16 development programme was sponsored by Marymount International School for Girls who provided training facilities for the U18 and U16 squads and hosted the first round of the U18 National Championship event. This generous support played an important role in the success of our junior National team.” To get involved boys and girls Richmond’s junior volleyball development centre is held at Tiffin Boys Schools training on Saturday mornings from 10.00 am to 12noon.
