Under strength Richmond roll out of National Shield
12th Jan 2010
A much-changed Richmond side went out of the National Shield 2nd round after a 3-0 loss to local neighbours White Eagles. Richmond fielded an under-strength squad as several first team players struggled to return home due to the serve whether conditions. Head coach Rijvers took the chance to give several fringe players an opportunity to stake their claim for the 6 remaining national league fixtures over the coming three months.
Richmond will be traveling south to Dorset next weekend with a full squad and will look to bounce back from their National Shield loss. Richmond has already faced Wessex last October and recorded a 3-1 win however Wessex and Richmond are both sitting 3rd with equal points in National League Division 2 and are looking to consolidate their league standing. Promotion to the Super 8 league for both Wessex and Richmond is a tall order however the new national league structure set to change for 2010/11 will see the current Division 2 drop to ten teams (from 12) and remained to Division 1. Both teams have a realistic opportunity to be promoted to Division 1 and will require to finish in the top 7 this season. So
all to play for and an exciting game!
