CCC beat Coombe Boys to retain u16 Kingston Schools Volleyball Cup

Holders Chessington Community College (CCC) Boys retained for the 2nd year the Borough Volleyball Cup with an impressive hard-fought victory over Coombe Boys in the u16 Kingston Schools Finals held at Richard Challoner School.
10 teams were divided into two groups of five playing the 4v4 super mini game and each team played each other once with the top two teams from each group progressing to the semi-finals. In group A Chessington A can on top (won 4 matches) followed by Southborough High A with 3 match wins against Hollyfield B, Richard Challoner B, and Tiffin Boys A. In group B it was Coombe Boys who can on top (won 4 matches) and Hollyfield A 2nd with three match wins against Richard Challoner A, Chessington B and Southborough High B.
The 1st semi-final proved a close battle with Coombe A beating Southbough High A by 22 points to 17 and in the 2nd Semi-final Chessington A convincingly won (27 to 15) against Hollyfield A. The two heavily favourite teams both managed to get to the finals and its was not disappointment. It was to be a close encounter and nearly caused an upset. On the day it was Chessington who were worthy winners overcoming a difficult team. The 3rd and 4th play-off match was won by Southborough High A against Hollyfield A.
Both finalists (Chessington and Coombe) will now progress to South London Volleyball Finals on Monday 5th February held at Tiffin Boys Schools were they will meet the top two teams from Richmond and Croydon and test their skills again.
Commenting on the success of the competition, Kingston PDM said, ‘We are very pleased with Richmond Volleyball and their commitment and enthusiasm delivering a fun competitive programme. All the students demonstrated how quickly the students learned the game and how much fun they had.
Richmond Volleyball Schools coordinator commented; we were delighted with the high attendance at the coaching sessions and the standard of play. All the teams played consistently 3 touch volleyball with some great rallies. We would also like to express thanks to all the schools teachers, sport leaders who helped making the events a great success.
Thanks to the schools Richmond junior volleyball section has over 60 boys and girls attending training regularly and competing in National Junior competitions from u18, u16, u15 and u14 age groups. We would also like to express thanks to all the school teachers, venues and sports leaders who helped make the 12 weeks winter volleyball programme a great success.
