Richmond mauled by Brentwood in NVL Cup 2nd round
16th Nov 2009
Richmond Volleyball NVL Men’s team travelled away last Saturday to Essex to strengthen their grip on the
2nd round of the National Cup but was ended with a heavy 3-0 defeat by Brentwood Partners. Richmond’s shortage of hitting power was highlighted with the absence of three starting six players and fringe players had the chance to impress however the team could only produce a lackluster performance.
Richmond coach commented – we were not good enough in all departments (passing, defence, blocking and attack). We were watching the ball and not positioning ourselves in the correct positions. We lacked the patience to rally the ball through the transition phases and made many errors. The opposition was relentless in their defense and given their size we should have been more dominant on the net. The team learnt a great deal from this disappointing defeat and there is still plenty of work for us to this season if we are to remain in the top half and challenge for promotion to National League Division 1.
Richmond can now concentrate on their strong NVL position with a double header home weekend on Saturday 28th Nov at 5pm (Brentwood Partners) and Sunday 29th November at 11am (Leicester VC).
Lets show the guys are support as they battle for a revenge win with our stunning cheerleaders and DJ at Kingston College Arena on Saturday 28th November - 1st serve is at 17.30 pm.
