Kingston Borough Champions - Coombe Girls

Tiffin Boys School hosted the best of the best (KS4 & KS3) year 10 and 11
Kingston Girls Schools Volleyball Championship Finals and saw on the day over 60
young girls competing for their schools.
Six school teams participated (Hollyfield, Tiffin Girls, Holy Cross, Chessington CC, Coombe Girls A and Coombe Girls B) and played each over once over 15 minute matches. It was a highly competitive competition and Coombe A proved worthy borough champions dominating all their matches and taking maximum points. Coombe B fought hard throughout and finished 2nd only losing to Holy Cross, and CCC finished 3rd. Hollyfield Girls performed very well given that they were the youngest team in the competition all from year 9 (u14).
Commenting on the success of the volleyball programme Richmond & Kingston Competitions Manager Mike Skinner said, ‘We are very pleased with Richmond Volleyball and their commitment and enthusiasm delivering a fun competitive programme. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the competition and demonstrated how quickly the students have learned the game. Richmond Volleyball Schools Coordinator commented, ‘We were delighted with the high attendance at the 5 weeks coaching sessions and the high standard of play with all teams playing 3 Touch which resulted in some great rallies. Students as well as playing were also refereeing games furthering their knowledge of the game and developing their leadership skills. Thanks goes to all the school teachers, Kingston Schools Sport Partnership team, venue host and sport leaders who helped on the day as scorers and referees making the event a great success’.
Many of the girls have been selected to represent Richmond Volleyball in the forthcoming National Junior u14, u15 and u16 competitions. The Premier league 4 Sport training sessions are held on Mon - 4.15pm (Chessington School), Tues - 4.30pm (Epsom Ewell High School), Thurs - 4.30pm (Coombe Girls), Fri - 5pm (London Oratory), Sat - 10am (Tiffin Boys School), Sun - 4.30pm (Whitton School).
Final Standing:
(1st) Coombe Girls A;
(2nd) Coombe Girls B;
(3rd) Chessington CC;
(4th) Holy Cross;
(5th) Tiffin Girls;
(6th) Hollyfield.
