Caribbean Sunshine arrives at Richmond Volleyball International Festival. Ya Mon!
1st September 2009
The 2nd annual Richmond Volleyball International Festival with a Caribbean twist held over the August bank holiday (3 days) at Imber Court Sports Club, East Molesey drew a record number of 350 players, family and spectators.
Even in tough economic conditions, team entries were up by 100% on last year making it one of the UK’s top five 6v6 summer grass tournaments. Thirty three teams travelled from all over the South of England to contest in five divisions and win this year’s top prizes (a new MIKASA MVA ball and £30 voucher for 2010 entry).
The weekend also included a selection of lively entertainment; DJ Lee on Saturday evening, a Caribbean Steel Band and BBQ on Sunday afternoon, a live rock band on Sunday evening and a free draw on Monday after the finals for a new MIKASA MVA200 match ball.
The tournament director commented, “We learned a lot from last year and worked hard to improve the event so we were ecstatic to see an increase by 100%. Many teams expressed their desire for this event to continue to grow and we received many positive comments on the venue, catering, organisation, entertainment, atmosphere and even the weather!”
Richmond Volleyball would like to thank everyone for making the festival a great success - in particular club volunteers and Imber Court. We look forward to welcoming back all participants and seeing many new team entries for 2010 August bank holiday weekend.
The three-day out-door competition created several fantastic divisional finals.
