DCMM relish 4v4 Grand Slam victory that drew record players

DCMM and Tuskers B were celebrating success last Sunday in the 4th and final of London’s only 4v4 Grand Slam Volleyball Tournaments that goes on tour attracting a record number of 180 players at Richmond’s Palewell Common - one of London’s top green flag parks.
In the Open Division there were 10 challengers on the day and only two
contenders for the 2009 Grand Slam Champions title (Spikeo -11 points and DCMM -14 points), but it was Some Spike it Hot and DCMM who reached the final and DCMM showed their dominance and consistency winning the match (2-0) and taking 2009 4v4 Open Grand Slam Champions title and ipods (20 points).
In the Mixed Division, there were 19 challengers and the top teams on the day were Tuskers B (12 points) and Hounslow Hawks (10 points). But it was Hamstead Spikers and new challengers Dodgy Heaters 2 in the final with Hampstead coming on top (2-1) finishing the series 2nd with 17 points. But Tuskers winning their fifth placed match had 1 more point then Hampstead Spikers to take the 2009 Mixed Grand Slam Champions title with 18 points.
Richmond Volleyball event organiser commented, It was great to see (in association with Play Sport London) that over 180 players competed in four Richmond 4v4 Grand Slam tournaments held at Ham Common, Old Deer Park, Fairfield Ground and Palewell Common over two months. The 4v4 Grand Slam format is different to a traditional grass volleyball tournament as we only play 4v4 and we play a series of 4 events across South London not just one weekend. Teams accumulate points over the 4 events to win ranking points for prizes; in the open division they get the chance to compete to win an Ipod Shuffle and in the mixed division the chance to win championship t-shirts.
