Too much Heat for DCMM in 4v4 Grand Slam
3rd Aug 2009
The 3rd of four London’s only 4v4 Grand Slam Volleyball Tournaments that goes on tour was held last Sunday at Kingston’s Fairfield Recreation Ground (in association with Play Sport London), with over 150 players registered.
Team DCMM maintained their place at the top of the Open division (14 points) winning all their group matches but lost in the final (2-0) against a new challenger Team Heat. In the Mixed Division Team Barnet also a new challenger emerged victorious 2-0 over Hampstead Spikers in the final, but Tuskers B having finished 5th are the new Mixed Division leaders with 12 points.
Richmond Volleyball event organiser commented, It was great to see 24 teams registered in this new exciting 4v4 format. The 4v4 Grand Slam format is different to a traditional grass volleyball tournament as we only play 4v4 and we play a series of 4 events across South London not just one weekend. Teams accumulate points over the 4 events to win ranking points for prizes; in the open division they get the chance to compete to win an Ipod Shuffle and in the mixed division the chance to win championship t-shirts. It also offers great value - participants play a minimum 12 sets per event for £15. Anyone can enter a team- it is open to all ages, abilities and genders with free coaching on site on the day.
The 4th and final event will be held at Palewell Common (Richmond) on Sunday, 16th August.
New team registrations are welcome to challenge the top teams in either the Open or Mixed Divisions. Team entry is £15.00 per event. Registration is at 9.15am. 1st serve 10.00am.
