DCMM out class Ham Busters in 1st 4v4 Grand Slam
6th July 2009
On a glorious Sunday, teams flocked to Ham Common for the 1st of four London's only 4v4 Grand Slam tournaments that goes on tour supported by Play Sport London.
It consists of 2 divisions; Mixed and Open (for the serious players). Team DCMM secured their hold at the top of the Open division winning the1st Grand Slam final by beating Ham Busters (2-0). In the Mixed Division Spikeos claimed top place by winning the final against Hounslow Hawks (2-0).
This was a great start to the 4v4 Grand Slam Series Commented Richmond Volleyball Events Coordinator.
The 4v4 Grand Slam format is different to a traditional grass volleyball tournament as we only play 4v4 and we play a series of 4 events across South London not just one weekend. Teams accumulate points over the 4 events to win ranking points for prizes; in the open division they get the chance to compete to win an Ipod Shuffle and in the mixed division the chance to win championship t-shirts. It also offers great value - participants play a minimum 12 sets per event for £15. Anyone can enter a team- it is open to all ages, abilities and genders with free coaching on site on the day.
The next event will be on Sunday, 19th July held at Palewell Common (Richmond) followed by Sun 2nd Aug, Kingston Fairfield Recreation Ground, and Sun 16th Aug – Richmond Old Deer Park.
New teams are still welcome to register and challenge the top teams. Team entry is £15.00 per event. Registration is at 09.15 am
