Strong performance by Kingston in London Youth Games.
8th June 2009
Kingston Girls and Boys finished 3rd and 5th respectively in their group matches of the u17 London Youth Volleyball Games held at The Score Centre (Leyton) last weekend. Both teams played exceptionally well on the day given that they were one of the youngest teams in the competition all from year 10 and 11 and are all eligible to play again next year.
A total of 20 London borough teams entered the volleyball competition and teams were divided into two groups of 10 each playing each other once and the top two teams from each group progressed to the Finals to be held at Crystal Palace on 4th July.
Kingston boys competed in a 9 team group and won 4 matches (Hounslow, Barnet, Hillingdon and Tower Hamlets) and lost 4 (Kensingston & Chelsea, Redbridge, Ealing, Havering). The Kingston girls group also had nine teams and they won 5 matches (Camden, Earling, Hackney, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets, Wandsworth) and lost 3 (Kensington & Chelsea, Waltham Forest & Harrow).
Richmond Volleyball Club Coaches commented, we’re very proud of these boys & girls having been selected from the successful Kingston Secondary Schools programme. Since launching the Kingston Youth Volleyball Development Centre at Tiffin Boys School on Saturday mornings (supported by Kingston Sports Development team) all the players have made significant progress. They now need to continue their regular training and discipline to progress to the next level. All players will be representing Richmond Volleyball in the National Junior Championships for the coming new season.
