A huge success - 1st u16 Inter-Borough Schools finals

Waldegrave Girls and Chessington Boys were worthy winners in the 1st u16 Inter-Borough Secondary Schools Volleyball Championships Finals held last Tuesday at Hampton Boys School.
This was the final winter term volleyball showdown for year 10 and 11 where the top 2 boys and 2 girls teams from 25 Richmond and Kingston schools qualified to compete
in the ultimate Inter-Borough showdown.
In the boys group Chessington (Kingston champions) faced Hampton boys (Richmond Champions) and Grey Court and won both their matches 2-0. Grey Court beat Hampton Boys 2-0 and secured their place in the final. In final Chessington had too much hitting power and won 2-0.
In the girls’ event Waldegrave Girls (Richmond champions), faced Coombe Girls (Kingston Champions) and Chessington and won both matches 2-0. Against Grey Court they drew 1-1 but had better points difference. Chessington reached the final beating Coombe and Grey Court (2-0). In the final Waldegrave
showed the greater consistency to be champions (2-0). All teams who finished 1st
and 2nd received a club t-shirt from Richmond Volleyball, the delivery coordinator.
The Director of Sport for Richmond and Kingston Schools Partnership commented: Richmond Volleyball delivered a very comprehensive 12 week programme involving 25 secondary schools and achieved with great success the 1st Inter-Borough volleyball tournament. The interest of younger people involved and the standard of play has sufficiently increased. Everything about it has been good natured and very positive.
Richmond Volleyball schools coordinator said; Well done to all the teams! We have seen a fantastic programme and the interest by young people and teachers is rapidly growing demonstrating there is much scope for volleyball to continue to develop in these London boroughs. The culmination of a lot of hard work from the coaches, teachers and venue hosts over the past 12 weeks is to be recognised and we would like to thank them all. Richmond Volleyball is fully committed building on this success by being at the heart of developing this Olympic team sport and we now look forward to delivering the volleyball programme for year 7,8 and 9 in the spring term.
