u16 Chessington boys' crowned Kingston champions!

Home advantage gave Chessington boys a narrow win in the Kingston Schools Borough
YR 10&11 Volleyball Championship finals. After 12 weeks all the Kinston Secondary Schools received coaching from Richmond Volleyball and competed in two cluster finals to qualify for the borough finals. The day’s play started with all the teams playing each once other over two sets. Chessington and Richard Challenor started favourites coming top in their early cluster borough festivals.
Chessington (CCC) won all their group matches against Hollyfield, Southborough, Coombe Boys and Richard Challenor qualifying to the final match. Richard Challenor was the other team narrowly qualifing beating Hollyfield and Southborough but lost to Coombe Boys. In the final Richard Challenor started brightly winning the 1st set but CCC fought back in the 2nd. In the 3rd set CCC had too much hitting power and can on top 2-1. In the Play-off finals 3rd placed Coombe Boys met 4th Southborough and it was Southborough who had the final say taking 3rd place. CCC and Richard Challenor will now progress to 1st Inter-Borough Volleyball Championship on Tuesday 9th Dec were they will meet the top two boys’ teams from Richmond Schools and test their skills again.
Commenting on the success of the competition, Kingston PDM said, ‘We are very pleased with Richmond Volleyball and their commitment and enthusiasm delivering a fun competitive programme. All the students demonstrated how quickly the students learned the game and how much fun they had.
Richmond Volleyball Schools coordinator commented; we were delighted with the high attendance at the coaching sessions and the standard of play. All the teams played
consistently 3 touch volleyball with some great rallies. We would also like to express thanks to all the schools teachers, sport leaders who helped making the events a great success. We hope many of these students will go on to represent Kingston at the London Youth Games in June 2009.
