u16 Richmond boys' go through to 2nd round of the nationals
2nd December 2008
Richmond U16 boys achieved 2nd placed in the 1st round of the u16 National Junior Volleyball Championships and qualified with Wandsworth and Thomas Moore to the next round having won 2 matches and lost 2 at the Ashcombe Volleyball Centre in Dorking.
In Richmond’s strong group of five teams from London and Surrey they won against Ashcombe VC (last years semi-finalists) 2-0 and drew against Thomas Moore VC 1-1, but won on better points difference. Unfortunately Richmond was beaten by Wandsworth 2-0 and Epsom VC 2-0.
Richmond coach commented. I’m very proud of these boys having been selected from the successful Richmond and Kingston Secondary Schools Sport Partnership Volleyball programme delivered by Richmond Volleyball. The boys were very nervous in their opening match against Wandsworth and they showed great spirit and enthusiasm and demonstrated some excellent raw potential with very encouraging results as they progressed through the day.
Richmond u16 boys will now travel to Poole (Dorset) on the 10th January 2009 in the hope of qualifying for the quarter finals of the National Junior Championships. Richmond would like to thank Aschombe for being great hosts.
