Richmond NVL Men win top of the table clash
1st December 2008
Richmond NVL Men consolidate their 2nd place in the National Volleyball League Div 3 Eastern Conference with a 3-1 home victory against NVL league leaders Tendring VC having played 3 extra games and defended their unbeaten run of seven games.
Richmond started the game the more positive and won the 1st set 25-19. In the 2nd they lost their composure and although lead mid-way through the set (15-12) they gave away the advantage with some untidy hitting and defence errors and lost 25-23. The 3rd set saw both sides step up their defensive intensity and again Richmond took the early opportunities and lead 18-15.
Tendring continued to battle hard and levelled the points at 25-25. The lively home crowd spurred the home side on and with some intelligent play by the captain Evan Penglis, gave the home team big points and was rewarded with a 29-27 win. In the 4th Richmond continued the momentum and stretched an early lead 7-2 and the visitors struggled to attack through Richmond’s strong block and defence taking the set 25-17.
Richmond coach complimented the team's performance with a weakened side due to several injuries (L.Tomášek, M.Sokolowski, and G.Scatigna-Gianfagna). He was encouraged by the atmosphere and was pleased the team is getting much stronger. However we still have much work to do and look forward to having our injured players back as we need a full team fighting for places to maintain the pace at the top end of the league. Thank you to all the supporters who can out and supported us.
The team is now looking forward to their next home match against Canterbury City in the 1st round of NVL Shield on Saturday 6th December. 1st serve is at 5.30 pm held at Kingston College Arena.
