Richmond’s 2nd match of the day was built-up as a local derby and with the crowd behind the home side, Richmond looked in the mood to add to their tally of five wins against a strong London Lynx side who brought two NVL Division 1 players and an ex England Junior setter.
Richmond’s 1st set performance saw them soak up some early pressure from Lynx’s attack before defending three balls to take the lead and secure the set. The 2nd set proved also difficult with Lynx taking an early advantage (15-11) on strong float serve and block. Richmond did not lose belief and confidence and restored the deficit to an 18-17 lead with intelligent hitting by E. Penglis and D.Cleather. The set remained very close at 22:22 and then two unforced errors by Lynx gave Richmond the advantage to take the 2nd set. Although the job was not done the momentum was with Richmond in the 3rd and they maintained the pressure with strong blocking and defence finishing.
Richmond coached praised his team's battling display after their 2 NVL match victories. We played well but need to concentrated very hard. The team is showing more consistency in their play and we had to roll our sleeves-up and defend our unbeaten league run.
Thank you to the supporters. The team is now looking forward to their next match against league leaders Tendring VC on Sunday 30th November at Kingston College Arena - come and support us!.
