5th November 2008
Last Monday, Richmond Schools Sports Partnership Director (Gary Palmer) and Richmond Volleyball Chairperson (David Rijvers) jointly presented to over 80 London Sports Conference delegates on how to create effective communication links between schools and community sport clubs during two fifty minute workshops.
The theme of the conference was ‘from school to community: towards an Olympic and Paralympic participation legacy’ and the presentation by Richmond Schools Sport Partnership and Richmond Volleyball focused on the successful model created for creating effective school club links and how the model could be replicated by other community sports across London boroughs.
The annual London Sports Conference was held at the Brit Oval with over 140 people attending from organisations such as School Sport Partnerships, County Sport Partnerships, National Governing Bodies and Local Education Authorities. It featured key speakers Baroness Sue Campbell (Chair of Youth Sport Trust and UK Sport) and Kate Hoey (MP and Mayor's Commissioner for Sport) and Danny Crates (World and Paralympic 400m & 800m Champion). There were also presentations from Sport England, PRO-ACTIVE London, London Federation of Sport and Recreation, National Governing Body Forum, London Community Sports Network
London Sports Forum for People with Disabilities, and London Development Agency
Richmond Volleyball Chairman commented: “It was fabulous to get involved with our partner Richmond Schools Sport Partnership at this high profile London sporting conference and discuss our successful school/community club model. It’s a testament to all the people involved who share the vision and passion to develop sport with young people.”
