Richmond ladies serve up an away win
3rd November 2008
Last Thursday Richmond Volleyball Ladies team travelled to East London for a London League Div 1 match against TH Lynx and with their strong serving gave Richmond a 3-0 victory.
Richmond started with a confident side-out game which was a good base for a series of strong services from N. Al-Shahumi which immediately put Richmond in a 7:1 lead. Although Lynx played good defense, another series of 5 services from A.Avila up to 19:10 secured the victory and finished the 1st set in 16 minutes 25:12.
Keeping the pace of the 1st set would have been enough to quickly wrap up the next set but loss of focus at the beginning cost Richmond dearly. Having reached 9:2 lead TH Lynx was regaining their game with some bold attacks. Strong and consistent service came to the rescue again. B.Marikova, A. Avila and M.Ciaciura brought the score from 5:12 down to a 25:15 victory in just three rotations.
Fantastic come back seemed to have cheered up Richmond side and they started determined to finish the game in the 3d set with an early lead. However, TH Lynx was fighting back in every rally and the balance was swaying from one side to another until a dramatic finish at 25:23 to Richmond.
Richmond coach commented:” Ladies showed some great skills on the night.. We did not doubt that technical level of the Richmond team was higher than opposition and that allowed a great come back in the 2 set.”
Final Result: London Lynx [0] v Richmond Volleyball [3]
