South London Sitting Volleyball Festival launched successfully
29th October 2008
In association with the South London Volleyball League (SLVL), Richmond Volleyball successfully launched this week the first of four sitting volleyball (SV) festivals held at Richmond College. The aims of the sitting volleyball festivals is not just to
offer more accessible and regular local competition and recruit more players and administrators into the sport, but also to raise the awareness of the sport and contribute to social inclusion.
The festival was fully integrated and well attended by SLVL players (featuring several Richmond VC players) and
by East London SV (featuring several Great Britain players).
The format involved a structured warm-up and several triangular matches.
All the participants enjoyed the competitive matches and the SLVL team managed to give the GB players a run for their money.
South London Volleyball League would like to extend their warm thanks to all players and club volunteers who supported the festival and made it an enjoyable success.
Sitting Volleyball is a great integrative variation of standing volleyball and is a fully integrated sport played literally sitting on the ground with no requirement for special equipment commented Richmond's Sitting Volleyball Coordinator. It is a fast paced and exciting game to both play and watch, and is even considered to be more intense and quicker than its standing format.
The next sitting volleyball festival is on Monday 8th December from 7pm to 10pm (Richmond College). All teams and players of all standards are most welcome.
