Richmond make a splash on their NVL debut
13th October 2008
Richmond Men’s national league team travelled away last weekend and won both of their NVL Division 3 Eastern Conference fixtures against Stowmarket (3-1) and Cambridge (3-0).
Richmond started brightly in the their 1st match against Stowmarket winning the 1st set 25-20 but in the second the home side were stubborn and won good points on their defence making Richmond work hard. In the 3rd and 4th Richmond found their form again and dominated serve and block forcing Stowmarket out of the game.
Final Result: Stowmarket [1] v Richmond Volleyball [3]
Set Results: 20-25; 26-24; 15-25; 15-25
Richmond's Player of the Match:: D.Cleather
Richmond’s 2nd game against Cambridge 2 was to be potentially another tough fixture having played against Cambridge 1 in the recent NVL Cup defeat. Richmond bounced back to sweep aside Cambridge 2 keeping the opposition score in the mid-teens. Cambridge was unable to handle Richmond’s superior attack, particularly through the middle and defence.
Richmond coached commented – This was a great team performance and shows something of what we are capable of. The team is young and learning fast and if we can achieve a level of consistency we have the potential to do very well this season. I’m pleased for the guys starting our debut campaign with two positive wins.
