Richmond faced tough challenge in NVL Cup
30th September 2008
Richmond Volleyball Men’s NVL team travelled away last weekend in the 1st round of the National League Cup and faced a very strong NVL Division 2 Cambridge team in a pulsating game which saw Cambridge win 3-0.
Richmond created great attacking moves and felt very comfortable competing against a team 20 places above them in the NVL but Richmond’s naivety in defense coupled with a much improved Cambridge team regulated from Division 1 last season denied Richmond a deserved set.
Richmond Coach commented this was a great learning experience for a young and ambitious Richmond team training 3 times per week. The team needs more matches at this level and it will be only a matter of time these players will be able to sustain the maturity to come through a game like this. The team is now looking forward to their National League Division 3 Eastern Conference fixture
travelling away to Stowmarket.
Team List:
E.Penglis (cpt), M.Sokolowski, T.Olivera, T.Stepien; P.Ceglowski, G.Scatigna-Gianfagna, M.Ghelfi, D.Cleather, D.Rijvers (Coach)
Final Result: Cambridge Volleyball [3] v Richmond Volleyball [0]
Set Results: 25-20; 25-18; 25-15
