Summer of Sport Finale
13th September 2008
Richmond Volleyball celebrated the finale week of the 6 weeks free Summer of Sport Volleyball programme by staging a successful 3-a-side volleyball tournament held at Old Deer Park.
Over the past six weeks Richmond Volleyball had great success in this Olympic team sport working with nearly 35 people ranging from complete beginners to advanced players.
Players had great fun and learnt a variety of technical skills and applied them throughout the programme. The aim was to increase participation figures, create pathways into the local volleyball community as well as promoting healthy life style.
For the tournament players were organised into teams on the day and each player who participated received a certificate. The tournament was a fitting way to end a great summer of sport sessions which have brought together people from across the community including the sitting volleyball. It was also played in the right spirit and everybody enjoyed the day in fantastic sunshine commented Richmond volleyball community coordinator."
Richmond Volleyball has been growing steadily over the past 3 years creating a number of teams ranging from juniors (u14, u15, u16, u18) to seniors competing in local, regional and national competitions. The club is also actively involved developing in 30 secondary schools in Richmond & Kingston boroughs.
Get involved and join the fun! Volleyball is the 2nd most participated team sport in the world and the No 1 team sport for women.
