Stan makes new friends at Kingston Festival
23rd July 2008
Summer 2008 Kingston Sport Festival yet again proved popular. The bank of the Thames was packed with people anticipating the Dragon Boat races which included some GB athletes. But somebody was already stealing the show…. OK, maybe not yet at GB level but definitely a star, Stan the Stag was giving out invitations to have a go on the volleyball court.
Very soon boys and girls as young as 4 to 13 years wanted to dig, set and spike. And so they did! Richmond Volunteers seemed to be having as much fun as the kids. Exciting rallies when the children started to show their real potential made passers-by stop and ask to take part too.
“It was a great opportunity for us to promote the sport in Kingston, especially as we have been making a fantastic start with our school development project in this borough”, commented Vera Kenyon, Club Secretary. “Big thanks goes to the organisers of the Event - Kingston Sports Development Team, and to Richmond Volleyball volunteers for their enthusiasm and commitment”.
