Richmond women flying high
23rd April 2008
Richmond's women's Surrey League Division 1 team was pushed all the way in a 5 set (2½ hrs) thriller against BA Jets stealing the match 3-2 and consolidating their 2nd place in the league.
After a convincing 25:18 win in the first set, Richmond gave in to the Jets with the same score in the 2nd and again in 3rd set. It was poor serve receive in the 3rd set and inability to finish the attack that made the loss of the set inevitable commented Richmond Coach.
The girls re-focused in the 4th and 5th set serving consistently and aggressively (N.Ali-Shahumi, B.Marikova), supported by strong hitting and precise and defence (O.Bubnova) and with overall imporved play (D.Zimmerman, A.Davis) wining the match 15-10.
Team List:
D.Zimmerman, B.Marikova, Ali-Shahumi, O.Bubnova, A.Davis, V.Kenyon (Coach)
Final Result: Richmond Volleyball [3] v British Airways Jets [2]
Senior Women train on Mondays from 8-10pm at Richmond College and is looking to recruit intermediate and advanced players .
