Richmond make late surge for promotion contention
14th April 2008
St Mary’s Richmond Men's 2nd team finished their volleyball season in Surrey League on a high note, having improved significantly thanks to regular training. They may have done just enough for promotion but await the last few results from the other teams in contention.
A fierce and bad tempered match against top of the table Egham ended in the narrowest of wins. Strong blocking by P. Beilecki gave Richmond a good advantage but the team suffered from occasional spells of disorganisation in the floor defence.
In the last match of the season against neighbours Teddington, the Tide End Tyrants, Richmond were stronger all round but the first class setting and jump serving from E.Penglis deserves a special mention. Great support from the girls of Richmond’s women team from the sideline undoubtedly facilitate the clear 3:0 win.
Team List:
N.Kenyon, M.Sokolowski, A.Koelblin, C. Lopes, P.Bielecki, E.Penglis, D.Nash, T.Shaw, S.Philips and T.Phillips.
Final Result:
Egham [2] v St Mary’s Richmond [3]
Final Result:
Teddington Tide End [0] v St Mary’s Richmond [3]
