Richmond win funds for Extended Activities coach
5th April 2008
Richmond Volleyball (an accredited club) will have their first ever part-time community volleyball coach starting in April 2008 delivering a 10 week volleyball programme to Richmond’s Secondary Schools as part of ‘5 hours extended activity programme’ launched last year by Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Besides coaching the programme will also host one of largest junior grass borough volleyball festivals. The aim for the programme is to target semi-sporty type young people who have shown an initial interest in sport but have yet to really engage helping them enhance and extend their lifestyle. The junior grass festival will have a Brazilian carnival theme involving 120 children” commented Richmond’s Schools Volleyball Coordinator; “It should be a great event and a fantastic opportunity to participate in this fun and dynamic Olympic sport and create a pathway for young people to get involved with Richmond Volleyball.
The appointment has come at the right time evolved from the strong school-club links created through Richmond Competitive Edge Volleyball programme and the positive relationship built with Pro-Active South London.
Richmond Volleyball would like to thank Pro-Active South London, Volleyball England, Sport England, and all the community partners who were involved supporting and guiding the club during the application process.
To get involved Richmond Volleyball has open volleyball sessions in Whitton Sports & Fitness Centre on Sunday’s from 4.30-6pm (junior / beginner’s) and from 6-8pm (intermediate and advance level)
You can also get involved at our Saturday Morning Junior Volleyball Club held at Waldegrave School from 9.00 to 10.00 (8 to 11 years old) and 10.00 to 11.00 am (11 to 15 years old).
