Orleans crowned u14 borough champions
3rd April 2008
Two Sporting Champions Claire Taylor (England Women's Cricket) and Siobhan Chamberlain (England Women's Football) attended the Competitive Edge U14 Richmond Schools Volleyball Championship Finals on Wednesday 2nd April held at St Mary’s University College to shine a bright light and present the awards.
Eight secondary schools (year 9, 8 & 7) received coaching and competed in two cluster finals during 10 weeks and were seeded for the championships finals on the basis of these results.
The finals consisted of 7 teams playing each other once over two sets. Orleans Park B and Christ B started favourites coming top in their cluster finals held in February and March. But it was Orleans B and Grey Court A setting the pace on the day. Orleans B just edged Grey Court A by a ½ point to become the u14 Borough Champions.
Teams finishing 5th to 8th from the previous cluster finals also competed on the day in the Play-off Finals with Orleans A and Christ A as favourites. Christ A can on top showing much improved consistency with Grey Court C as runners up.
Richmond Volleyball Schools Coordinator commented, “This competition was a great success and to see so many young people (90 in total) enjoying the game and all teams producing exciting volleyball with consistent 2 and 3 touches was fantastic to see.
Richmond Volleyball would like to express thanks to Richmond's SSP and all their PE staff , Waldegrave and Orleans Park Young Sport Leaders, Richmond College Young Sport Leaders and to Richmond Volleyball club volunteers who helped on the day. Without their help the event would not have been so successful. They supported the event with their competent refereeing, scoring and recording duties. A total of 39 matches were played.
