U18 Junior Men compete with pride in National ¼ Finals
11th March 2008
Richmond Volleyball u18 Men were unfortunately disadvantaged last weekend in the quarter-finals of the National Volleyball Championships in Keele when their main setter Yutaro Miwa had to return to Japan at short notice.
Sam Philips seized the setting challenge but it was not enough to oversee strong opposition from Ashcombe (Dorking), Wessex (Poole), and Staffs (Newcastle-under-Lyme) to secure Richmond Volleyball a place in the semi-finals.
However, the coach D.Rijvers believes it was a positive experience for the club, he commented. “It’s our first year at this level in this competition and it was a great achievement for Richmond Volleyball U18’s to acquire a top eight finish against some very established junior clubs. This will create greater unity and confidence for the future within the club. My thanks also go to Whitton School for their mini bus services and the German School for the use of their training facilities.”
