Richmond Volleyball (an accredited clubmark club) has been nominated by Volleyball England to represent volleyball for the prestigious CCPR Community Sports Club of the Year 2008 awards. Two other clubs were also put forward; University Sport Birmingham Volleyball Club and Newcastle (Staffs) Volleyball Club.
Richmond was chosen due to the number of high profile events they run to develop the sport including, Corporate Challenge, Sport Relief tournament, Sitting Volleyball 4 All, Summer League, Summer of Sport and Richmond International Festival Tournament. Richmond has also built strong club links (a total of 23) with primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities and run 12 teams (seniors, students and juniors) competing in national, regional & local competitions.
Club Chairman commented; “This is the first time Richmond Volleyball had been short-listed for CCPR Community Sports Club of the Year. Our success story is based on focusing on the local community and building strong relationships with several key community partners. Our ambitious vision and vast growth could not have been achieved without the hard work and dedication of devoted and enthusiastic club volunteers. Our sincere thanks go to everybody who has helped Richmond Volleyball become firmly rooted in the local community as a club for all.”
The winners will be announced at a gala dinner held the evening before CCPR’s annual conference on 7 May 2008.
