Kent block out St Mary's in ¼ Finals of BUSA Trophy
14th February 2008
St Mary’s University College Men’s Volleyball team missed out on league promotion
but did qualify for the BUSA trophy knockout as one of the top 2 teams from their South Eastern Conference Men's 2A League winning eight from their 10 games.
St Mary’s 1st round opponents was Bath University (one of the top English Volleyball universities) qualifying as the top team from the Western Conference Men's 1A League. St Mary’s were not fazed by Bath’s reputation and higher league standing and produced a major upset
with a convincing 3-0 victory in front of their home crowd.
Unfortunately, St Mary’s could not progress to the semi-finals when they had to face their double conquerors Kent University from their South Eastern Conference League. Coached by Richmond Volleyball the coach commented “the season proved reasonablely successful and with many players progressing to higher levels of play and many returning back for next season the team have a good opportunity to achieve league honours!”
St Mary’s BUSA women’s volleyball team had an up and down season finishing mid table in their South Eastern Conference Women's 2A league having won four from their nine matches. The women’s programme is now rebuilding with many of the final year students leaving.
