U18 Women through to 2nd round of nationals
16th December 2007
Richmond Junior Women u18’s stormed through the first round of the National Championships
last weekend. They topped a group also featuring Espom, Wessex and VK Barnet to qualify for the next round dropping only one set out of six.
Coach Vera Kenyon said “we can to win and did it in style”. Nobody could cope with our service and attack. Even the tallest blockers could not stop hits by Benita Albrecht and Prisca Ondo, while good variations in attack by setters Yomba Foster and Misa Ozaki made our game exciting.
Randa El Mallah was a solid first line of net defence, while Marina Landis and Lucy Horncastle showed some consistent court play. But a special mention must go to Soya Landis our specialist defensive players who made a difference in the hardest moments of every set.
Team List:
Benita Albrecht, Prisca Ondo, Yomba Foster (Captain), Misa Ozaki, Randa El-Mallah, Marina Landis, Lucy Horncastle, Zoya Landis, Natasha Nicholson, Sofia Burgio, Fritzi Schrader, Jenny Richter and Vera Kenyon (Coach)
