Richmond's Germans take it to the semis

The Richmond based German School of London can within a whisker of success at the ISSA u18 Men’s Volleyball Tournament last weekend in Ankera (Turkey).
The team coached by Richmond Volleyball was competing against eight international schools from London, Scotland, Portugal, Spain and Turkey at the Bikent
School.
The German School started brightly beating the American School of Madrid 2-0 before edging out the host by the same score, thanks to great blocking by Simon Graw and good serving from Frederic Schilster.
They then drew 1-1 with favourite St Dominic’s of Lisbon, meaning their group had three teams finishing on equal points. After a nail biting wait the German School made it through of the semis on point’s difference where they faced the eventual winners the International Schools of Aberdeen.
They won the first set. But despite more great serving from Schilster, steady setting from Moritz Giller and top power-hitting by Moritz Boecher they bowed out 2-1.

How to get involved in volleyball
To get involved Richmond Volleyball has an open volleyball session in Whitton Sports & Fitness Centre on Sunday’s from 4.30-6pm (beginner level) and from 6-8pm (intermediate and advance level).
Richmond Volleyball also offers a Saturday Morning Junior Club held at Waldegrave from 9.00 to 11.00 am. Age groups are from 9 to 15 years old.
