Richmond support local primary school fund raising event
24th September 2007
St Mary’s Primary School welcomed David Rijvers (a coach from Richmond Volleyball - an Accredited Volley 1 Clubmak Club) delivering a fun coaching session and raised £65.00.
Two volleyball courts were held outside on Marble Hill playing fields which caught the attention of a number of children and parents. All the children aged 6-10 and parents had great fun receiving 1 hour and 30 minutes coaching session before playing fun matches till dusk.
Richmond Coach was impressed by the children’s and parents abilities, attitude and commitment to learning a new sport. The
afternoon's coaching will hope to be a catalyst to develop volleyball at St Mary’s either at lunch time or after school. The signs are very positive with all the parents and children having great fun and Mr Simmonds (head teacher) who is also a keen player.
Richmond Volleyball is keen to deliver more taster / demonstration sessions to primary schools in Richmond and surrounding areas with the aim to give an opportunity for young people to participate in volleyball activities. Over the last 6 months Richmond has been working with 5 five primary schools. The introduction of volleyball to Richmond’s primary schools will also prove vital supporting Richmond Secondary School Competitive Edge volleyball programme.
