Richmond Juniors win Silver at UK Schools Games

Last weekend Sam and Tom Philips (Richmond u17 Juniors) where selected to represent England South Boys in the first time volleyball entry in the UK School Games held in Coventry sponsored by VISA and Coventry City Council. Richmond Volleyball also had representation with senior staff members Carol Gordon (Head Coach for England South Boys) and Andy Kwiatkowski (Team Manager for England South Boys).
England South Boys had tough opposition from England Midlands, England North, Scotland South East, Scotland North West and Northern Ireland. A full crowd, TV cameras, players from the other home nations, and VIP guests including Paul Deighton, CEO of the 2012 London Olympics organising committee, Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe, Sue Campbell Chair of UK Sport and Steve Grainger Chief Executive of Youth Sport Trust were witness to the two finals, which saw England North beat England South in the girl’s competition and England Midlands beating England South in the boys. The overall winners were the England South teams.
The UK School Games is the biggest school sports event in the UK involving a number of different individual and team sports. The Games gave the opportunity for young people to replicate the feel of a major multi-sport event such as the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games or the Commonwealth Games.
Richmond Volleyball Chairman applauds the U17 Richmond players and senior club staff members for there fantastic contribution and dedication to the volleyball, the event, England South and to their club.
