Richmond players win Gloucester Tournament
13th August 2007
Richmond volleyballers were celebrating success on Sunday evening after winning the mixed division one at the 2007 Gloucester Festival Grass Volleyball Tournament.
The tournament was held over the 11th and 12th August with over 60 participating teams representing regional and national volleyball clubs.
The Richmond team, under the guise of ‘Flossie’s Angels’ and comprising of Andy Coleman (Captain), Hayley Mangan, David Rijvers, Frances White, Holly Parry (u17) and Mark Richardson (u17 England Junior) beat 7 teams in total to win their division.
The tournament was of a high standard and ‘Flossie’s Angels’ had to overcome tough competition on both days to qualify for the semi-final and then the final. The final was a closely fought match but Richmond triumphed in the end to win 2-0, thanks to strong performances and committed team work from all team members.
Throughout the tournament ‘Flossie’s Angels’ demonstrated solid volleyball skills and a united team front, with notable performances from the two juniors in the team who demonstrated they are more than a match for the seniors; Holly (U17) displayed steady setting and serving, and Mark (England U17) was a solid presence on the net with powerful blocking and hitting. The team would also like to pass on their thanks on to Lucy for being their tireless supporter and ‘official’ photographer.
