Reynolds wins 2007 Richmond Summer League
31st July 2007
Last Tuesday the 2007 Richmond Summer Volleyball League Season can to a close after 9 weeks of strong volleyball competition with a total of 40 people competing, and with the overall winner being announced.
All the matches were played at the vast green fields of the Old Deer Park, supported by good quality equipment, good organisation and a fantastic golden sunset creating the perfect setting for the people who seriously enjoy playing volleyball - that's what made this competition a success for the 2nd year running.
The Richmond Volleyball Summer League was aimed at being open, flexible and friendly providing a fantastic opportunity for people of different ages, gender and sporting ability to participate in volleyball and play lots of matches.
In the final two weeks there were only four players in competition for honours – Lewis Melville (who led most of the campaign) Hamed Malti, Richard Reynolds, and Neil Kenyon. A total of 20 people turned out to challenge the contenders hopefully create an upset; but in the end, it was Richard Reynolds who took home the bottle of champagne finishing with 38 points as 2007 Richmond Summer League Volleyball Champion. Neil Keynon finished 2nd (33 points), Hamed Malti 3rd (31 points) and Lewis Melville 4th (31 points).
Richmond’s Events Coordinator commented that the feedback from the 40 players
was very positive and would like to see the event to be even bigger for next
year. Richmond’s Volleyball Summer League has established itself as an important
development link for the local community and has potential to be a major sporting feature in the Richmond summer sports caldendar.
If you want to get involved in volleyball we are hosting five weeks of FREE volleyball on Thursdays from 7-9pm at Kingston Arena as part of ‘Summer of Sport’ programme.
