Richmond
coaches qualify FIVB in the Caribbean
1st June 2007
Richmond Volleyball coaches David Rijvers and Vera Kenyon travelled to St Luica (Caribbean) to complete their FIVB Level 1 Coaching award. The FIVB is the International Organisation responsible for all forms of Volleyball on a global level.
The course offered the most recent trends of the modern game of volleyball and allowed the participants to exchange ideas and experiences. The course had a total of 27 coaches and teachers from the Caribbean region of which 20 passed successfully. Both David and Vera passed with flying colours!
The FIVB course was delivered by Michel Paiement (Canada) and Peter Nonnenbroich (Germany); both having written written several instructional coaching volleyball books. Michel was the Director of Technical Development for Canada and FIVB and coached Team Canada at the time of the Barcelona Olympic Games and Peter managed several professional clubs in Europe and most recently was the Head Coach of Cameroon Women’s team competing in the 2006 FIVB Women's World Championship held in Japan –the equivalent to the World Cup finals in football.
The FIVB coaching qualifications marks another step for Richmond Volleyball (a Volley 1 Accredited Club) establishing itself as a centre for volleyball excellence. This will also help Richmond develop teams for the national league and also develop the Richmond’s team of 12 national qualified coaches who are working in our community development programmes.
