win regulation battle

Richmond Men's 1st team encountered a tense regulation battle against London Lionhearts away at Bethnal Green. Richmond’s positive attitude and strong team spirit helped them come out on top winning 3 sets to 1.
Walid Odah proved very effective through the middle using his power and height. Evan Penglis, Tom Paulo, Tomas Stepien and Zoltan Lengyel all played with enthusiasm and showed regular flashes of brilliance. However the key to the team’s successes was David Rijvers; he was a model of reliability with his jump serve and the accuracy of his setting driving the team through some difficult moments.
Evan Penglis was always dependable - what more can be asked of a captain! Tomas Stepien played a steady game and developing in every match. Tom Paulo played well enough but seemed rather below par. As a result David Rijvers had to work hard to keep his squad focussed on its task to win.
Richmond’s performances have improved considerably over the last three months Coach David Rijvers and on their last match the team gave their best performance. The team is very young with several players from Kingston University and St Mary University College integrating into the team and playing in a league that is a good standard. Three players (Tomas Stepien, Walid Odah, Tom Paulo) started playing six months ago and having trained three times a week they are now starting to show real potential. Their attitude and discipline is a credit to them and will make Richmond an exciting place for year season!
