u19 Richmond Men win silver at national finals
23rd April 2007
Richmond College went to National Volleyball Finals at Loughborough University and were part of the British College Festival of Sport that involved eight regions from around the country and 15 sports. Sadly the team were without assistant captain Will Walker as he was at a major Lacrosse tournament in the USA.
As champions of the South East Region the boys’ team finished top of their group and played against the West Midlands in the semi finals. It was a hotly contested match and admirably supported by Richmond College girls team who had driven up especially for the day. Their chanting and enthusiasm helped Richmond’s boys win the semi-final. The team were on an early night curfew and were excited about the final against a strong North East team who had three England Junior Players and have been National Champions on many occasions.
Richmond College tried to match their spiking power but the strong team play and defence transition could not bring home the gold! Carol Gordon (Richmond’s Head Coach) commented that silver is fantastic achievement and demonstrates their consistent commitment throughout this season. It’s a great achievement and they should be proud of the award!
Team List: Ashley Trodden (Captain), Lee Tyler, Rob Carter, Alastair Quantrill, Esmaiel Baraky, Joe Pearce, Nick Harvey, Philip Ly, Arya Zarrinkhat, Hamilton Bowler, Jay Trehy and Carol Gordon (Coach).
