Grey tops Cluster B u14 Richmond Schools Finals
23rd March 2007
Last Friday Christ School held the second of two cluster volleyball finals for years 8 & 9 with great success. In association with Competitive Edge, Richmond Volleyball Club delivered four weeks of volleyball coaching to three schools (Grey Court, Teddington and Christ School) and then prepared the schools for competitive matches.
The Cluster B final involved 40 children (6 teams) and all the teams were mixed showed amazing improvement in technical skills and understanding of the game. It was not easy on a Friday afternoon to sustain required level of focus and agility and some sets were more exciting than others; all teams played each other once over three sets.
Congratulations went to Grey Court A who topped group B, followed by Christ A and in 3rd place Christ B. The teams from Cluster B will be seeded and will all qualify for Champions League Final on Friday 30th March 2007 held at St Mary’s University College where there will be 14 teams.
Richmond’s u16 Junior Coach commented how incredible so much progress has been made. This is our first year working with a younger age group and the children have progress so quickly and want to learn and to higher level. Even the teachers were pleasantly surprised by the overall standard of the game and commented on the fact the children seemed to be enjoying playing volleyball, were polite and disciplined with good team spirit.
Richmond's Junior Coordinator also expressed his thanks to all the schools and
their sport leaders who helped on the day. Without their help the event would not have been so successfully. They supported the event with their competent refereeing, scoring and recording duties for all 30 matches. The sport leaders were Gemma Weber, Annie Rau, Ciara Rafferty, Charlie Tolfree, Jake Laflin, Danny Jenkinson, Elliott Gilling, Ben Mountford, and Jane Bell.
