Volleyball is Top 5 Priority Sport in Richmond's Secondary Schools
19th March 2007
It’s official, after Richmond Volleyball and Richmond Schools Sports Partnership meeting last Monday we can announce that Volleyball is now recognized as one of the top five priority sports for Richmond’s Secondary schools.
This is a fantastic achievement for Richmond Volleyball and the sport in general. Richmond Volleyball started the schools competitive edge partnership in Nov 2005 and have delivered a number of structured coaching sessions and organised many finals for various age groups; and the response by the students and teachers has been 'we want more!' commented Richmond Junior Development
Coordinator.
The secret behind Richmond Volleyball success is largely due to a core team of dedicated people who have built strong relationships with the schools. Richmond Volleyball would like to thank these members - without their knowledge and enthusiasm this would not have worked commented Richmond's Chairman.
Volleyball is a very simple game and it does not need much space. Per court there are two teams of six separated by a net. The basic idea is to ground the ball in your opponents’ court, or force them to hit the ball out of court. Once the ball is served into the opponents’ court, each team has up to 3 hits before the ball must return over the net. On one football pitch alone you can have 12 volleyball courts with 144 people playing.
To support our schools development programme Richmond Volleyball is running a recognised level 1 national coaching course on Sat 5th and Sun 6th May at St Mary’s University College.
