Hampton Win Cluster A U14 Richmond Schools Volleyball Finals
12th March 2007
Last Friday Hampton Community College held the first of two cluster volleyball finals for years 8 & 9 with great success. In association with Competitive Edge, Richmond Volleyball Club delivered four weeks of volleyball coaching to four schools (Waldegrave, Whitton, Hampton CC, and Orleans Park) and then prepared the schools for competitive matches.
The Cluster A final involved 60 children (8 teams) and all the teams were mixed showed amazing improvement in technical skills and understanding of the game. It was not easy on a Friday afternoon to sustain required level of focus and agility and some sets were more exciting than others; all teams played each other once over three sets.
Congratulations went to Hampton B who topped group A, followed by Hampton A and in 3rd place Whitton B. Although Waldegrave fielded all girls’ teams they did very well. The
top 4 teams from Cluster A will be seeded and will all qualify for Champions League Final on Friday 30th March 2007 held at St Mary’s University College where there will be 14 teams.
Richmond’s U16's Head Coach commented how incredible so much progress has been made. This is our first year working with a younger age group and the children have progress so quickly and want to learn and to higher level. Even the teachers were pleasantly surprised by the overall standard of the game and commented on the fact the children seemed to be enjoying playing volleyball, were polite and disciplined with good team spirit.
Richmond's Schools Development Coordinator also express his thanks to all the sport leaders
who helped on the day. Without their help the event would not have been so
successfully. They supported the event with their competent refereeing, scoring
and recording duties for all 28 matches.
The Competitive Edge project has spectacularly increased involvement by local schoolchildren in competitive volleyball. This is an exciting time for Richmond Volleyball who many of these players will be representing u15 Richmond teams in the u15 National Championship competition next season.
